Town Departments

Selectmen's Office

The Selectmen's office administrates the day-day-day operation of the Town, including management of the General Government budget, and issues permits for the use of the Municipal Community Room and Temporary Pistol permits.
Town Clerk's Office

ATTENTION: the new ANGLER'S GUIDE is now available in the office. Stop by and pick one up. The Town Clerk's Office is reponsible for maintaining land records, vital records (birth, death, and marriage certificates, issuing sportsmen licenses, and numerous other statute-required duties.
Tax Collector's Office

TAXES ARE NOW OVERDUE. Last day to pay without interest was Friday, February 1, 2013. Postmarks were accepted and processed as on-time payments. The cost for a statement for taxes paid in 2012, for income tax purposes, is $1.00 for each report year.
Land Use Office

The Main Duty of the Land Use Office is to inform the public of all necessary zoning, wetland and building codes and regulations for the Town of Canterbury and to distribute the proper land use permits.
Assessor's Office

The Homeowner's Program ends May 15th! If you have not yet submitted your application please call the Assessor's office to set up an appointment.
Town Treasurer's Office

The duties of the town treasurer are wide and far ranging. They include the day to day financial management of the town, by conservative investment of town funds and proper payment for authorized debts.
Municipal Agent to the Elderly

The Town of Canterbury Municipal Agent to the Elderly is available to assist seniors in information and referral services.
Public Works Department

The Public Works Department performs road maintenance, mows grass, prunes/removes brush/trees, picks up litter, plows snow, and paints stop bars. The crew also maintains trucks at the Town Garage.
Registrars of Voters

The Registrars of Voters are responsible for the administration of all local, state and national elections; the registration of all eligible voters; and the conduct of primaries and referendums.
Animal Control

Animal Control Services are provided by Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG), based in Dayville, CT. The contact phone number is (860) 774-1253. Constables

Canterbury constables serve the Town by aiding in traffic control and other logistical support at Town functions.
Emergency Management

Local emergency management capabilities support the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security in preparing for our communities' response to potential disasters.
Judge of Probate

Probate Courts have jurisdiction over a wide variety of matters including: Trusts and Estates, Guardians, Conservators and Civil Commitment, and Parents.
Justices of the Peace

Justices of the Peace have general oath-giving powers, may take acknowledgments, may join persons in marriage, and may take depositions. All local Justices of the Peace reside in Canterbury.
Solid Waste Transfer Center

Canterbury's Solid Waste Transfer facility is located in front of the Public Works Garage/Bus Depot at 111 Kinne Road. Hours of operation are Tuesday & Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
